nexsuperne Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 Hi all. I have a 1.9tdi mk2 manual 6 speed galaxy. Most of the time gear selection is really easy, but sometimes when it hasnt been used for a few hours, it is extremely difficult to get it into any gear. Side to side movement seems ok, but front to back is where the issue starts. Is there a grease point in the gearstick assembly? Is it rod or cable driven? Thanks for any help. Quote
chromedome Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 The gear stick is connected via cables which have been known to pop off. I am thinking it may be clutch related if it only happens when cold, perhaps the clutch is not releasing properly. No doubt the experts will be here soon with more sound advice. Quote
BrianH Posted June 25, 2013 Report Posted June 25, 2013 (edited) It may be worth checking the gearbox oil level - I'd expect theres a level plug somewhere on the box if you remove it and nothing comes out adding some of the correct oil to it may be enough to solve the problem. I've known the gear change to stick on other cars when this is the case. Edited June 25, 2013 by BrianH Quote

I'd go with the clutch dragging when cold theory......when it is difficult, switch off engine and try selecting gears then - is it easy? Quote
